Lumbar spine trabecular bone score may determine diabetic skeletal deterioration in patients with high bone mineral density.

Trabecular bone score (TBS) is a novel texture index that evaluates pixel gray-level variations in lumbar spine dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images, and is related to bone microarchitecture independent of bone mineral density (BMD).

In this study, researchers investigated lumbar spine TBS as an indicator for skeletal deterioration in diabetes.

They used a cross-sectional data collected from participants in an ongoing prospective community-based cohort study from 2009 to 2010.

The findings suggest a link between TBS and diabetic skeletal deterioration.
