Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a minimally invasive option for patients who are overweight or obese and need to lose weight to improve their health but do not qualify for bariatric surgery, such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy, because of their BMI, notes Christopher Thompson, MD, director of therapeutic endoscopy at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.
