Program Description

This case-based enduring activity will cover the treatment and management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Intended Audience

This educational activity is intended for primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, certified diabetes educators, and other clinicians who care for patients with diabetes.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Review evidence-based guidelines and best practices for the management of patients with T2DM
  • Evaluate the mechanism of action, safety, and efficacy profiles of new basal insulin formulations and incorporate these agents into comprehensive treatment plans in patients with T2DM
  • List barriers to treatment intensification in people with T2DM and address strategies that allow for the appropriate use of safe and cost-effective therapeutic agents
  • Discuss effective strategies for patient referral to other healthcare professionals when relevant, as well as for providing patient education to promote enhanced adherence and improved outcomes in patients with T2DM
