VIDEO: Endocrine Society Issues Scientific Statement on Use of Bioidentical Compounded Hormones
For conditions like thyroid disorders and menopause, custom compounded hormones are often unnecessary.
BOSTON — In a new Endocrine Society scientific statement, experts recommend against the use of custom compounded bioidentical hormones to treat menopausal symptoms, thyroid disorders, and other hormone conditions.
In this video, Nanette Santoro, MD, chair of the task force that developed the statement, discusses how in many cases, “widespread use of custom compounded hormones lacks a logical basis” and may in fact be harmful.
The statement was made available at ENDO 2016.
