BOSTON — In a new Endocrine Society scientific statement, experts recommend against the use of custom compounded bioidentical hormones to treat menopausal symptoms, thyroid disorders, and other hormone conditions.

In this video, Nanette Santoro, MD, chair of the task force that developed the statement, discusses how in many cases, “widespread use of custom compounded hormones lacks a logical basis” and may in fact be harmful.
